Slow Market

It is very easy to purchase practically any item by walking into a shop, exchanging money and walking out with it with little thought to the materials or the time and effort used to make it. The whole transaction can take just minutes. The Slow Market endeavours to slow down this whole process and asks customers to either order the making of their product for a later pick up or to make their own in a workshop both using found and recycled materials.

Rags to Rugs Workshop

Learn how to crochet while you turn your old clothes or fabric scraps into a rug for your home! This workshop will begin with an introduction to crochet basics, then enjoy a relaxing social session of crochet amongst friends. Grab a coffee from the café next door and whip those fabric scraps into a super easy, super effective Rag Rug. You’ll only need to learn one stitch to make a basic rug so this workshop is suitable for complete beginners, but even accomplished crocheters are welcome and there will be plenty of opportunity to share skills. All you need to bring is your stash of fabric scraps or a bunch of old shirts and a crochet hook, and you’ll be all set with a lovely new rug for winter.

Paper & Scissors Rock!

Single-use paper items pass through our hands regularly, in the form of envelopes, catalogues, newspapers, chopstick wrappers, birthday cards, clothing hangtags, wrapping paper, shopping lists and business cards. We're having a Slow Market drop-in session turning these waste items into party decorations that you would normally go out and buy. So bring your paper scraps, your scissors and any other crafting supplies you have handy, and drop in for some paper crafting fun.

This is not a workshop, but rather a social making session. We'll be providing plenty of inspiration though, and some materials. So bring your friends, get creative, share ideas, share materials and see what fun decorations you come up with.
